a few of my elephant jewels

good evening!

tonight i'm featuring some of the wearable elephants i own! yeah! the same rules apply for elephant accessories and clothes. we're looking for the idea of an elephant, not the real thing!

my first elephant accessory is this little gleaming crystal pin. i actually got it off of ebay for my fiance as a tie pin. but when i got it in the mail, i realized it was a little to large and "bling" for a tie pin. :) haha.. so i kept it for myself! i wear it all the time.. especially near the election booth! :)

i also got these elephant dangly earrings off of ebay for super cheap! these are a little more whimsical than stylish, but good for those days when i want to be a fun teacher! :) (which is what i'm training to be) you have to own those "fun" pieces to your style collection! :)

i got this gold elephant belt at a yardsale for like 50 cents. this look pretty much only works as a belt. picture this as a set of earrings, and they get thrown into the tacky pile. you just have to be so careful with animal jewelry!!

BIG "by the way"---- please! never wear all of your elephant accessories at the same time!! now that is scary and obsessive and crazy cat lady (with elephants)... ok.. just had to clear that up!

hopefully i'm able to stress the difference between elephants as a fashion statement and elephants as another episode on the discovery channel.. we'll see how it goes.. :)

have a happy day. :)

elephant aromas

this is an ideal gift for me and my future husband.. me: because, the obvious.. i love elephants! and daniel: because he loves candles and basically anything that smells good! this cool little elephant tea light gift set brings the jungle in with warm aromas and colors too!

a plus is the wooden artsy factor.. are you starting to follow me?! :)

cutsie and modern versions of elephant style

i want to differentiate between the 2 types of collectors out there... the obsessed and the appreciator.

i am the appreciator, atleast i hope so! :)

if i was obsessed with elephants, i would buy every elephant i came across: national geographic elephant t-shirts, grey elephant mugs, life-like elephant figurines (eww!!!), gold elephant tusk jewelry, or perhaps an elephant mouse pad. i don't own any of those.. thankfully.

an appreciator collects the idea of the object. i like wooden elephant forms, not a detailed representation. i prefer a pink plastic chunk that resembles an elephant over a skillfully crafted perfectly identifiable elephant. i like a modern twist, whether it be with basic shapes or a twist of colors. i can appreciate the ironic beauty there. :)

my first elephants were from my fiance and my sister, ashley. dan got me 2 elephants whispering to each other. if you look at the whispering elephant's hand, you can see he is hiding a ring for his friend! aww! how cute!! this is a cute collectable.. borderline obsessive.. but still cute enough to be safe.. haha.. :)

ashley
(go see her blog too) got me a candle stick of 3 elephants standing on top of each other. this is great because, you would definitely never see elephants standing on top of each other in real life. it's just a fun artful take on happy pachyderms. this definitely fits in the appreciator category. i understand that some cute elephant figurines (like the whispering couple) are portrayed in a fashion you also wouldn't see in real life, but it sometimes lacks the art factor. that could throw them into the obsessor category. does this make any sense?

this probably sounds like crazy ramblings to some of you, but i want people to understand i'm not like a crazy cat lady.. but with elephants. :) i just appreciate the style of our elephant friends!

incorporating elephants into my wedding?

as i pointed out in my earlier post, i'm getting married to a wonderful guy named dan. we're getting married june 27, 2009. yay!

i wanted to somehow tastefully incorporate elephants into my wedding decor. that's kinda hard if you don't want an African safari theme! hmm.. i decided to let go of that idea for a time, because i wanted a garden theme (not jungle)... :)

after doing some internet browsing and brainstorming.. i figured out that, if done correctly, elephants can take on a garden-y look too! i found the idea of an elephant topiary. i tried to make it... for a day! then i stopped... and realized this was going to be a little too time-consuming. but... with little elephant statues and small wooden figurines, i could still make a place for them in my wedding! so i've been on the look out for elephants with a garden flair to them. pretty much anything that is under 5 dollars and garden wedding chic is game!!! so i'll keep you updated on the search for those little guys!

as for life outside of elephants.. i'm just working this semester to make money to go back to school. i have one more year of college left! i am so ready to graduate though! hmm.. life at the pharmacy is exciting, but i think i'd rather be with people who aren't 76 years older than me! no offense to my "seasoned" readers.. :)

ok.. new subject.. i think my mom and i are going out this morning. maybe we can find some little elephant friends. i'll let you know what i find!! :)

why elephants?

to answer a few questions ahead of time....

so why did i decide to blog about elephant finds?

1. i really like elephants

2. i really like fashion that involves elephants

3. i like to share my finds with others

4. i've always wanted to have a blog and faithful readers.. haha..

5. everyone and their mom has a blog... including my own mother.. :)

6. because elephants need to rebuild their fashionable status in the US

7. to express my true appreciation for elephants and for our almighty God who created them for us.

what about penguins? cats? yellow-footed toads, badgers or mice?
1. i don't like cats.

2. because elephants are way more fascinating than mice.

3. ever since the day i saw an elephant (for the first time, when i was 18), i knew they were special creatures that should be in the spotlight!

what was your first elephant possession?
well i probably once owned a stuffed baby elephant or something, but since my obsession with elephants, i think it was a little elephant figurine from my fiance, daniel. awww!!

if you like elephants so much, why don't you marry 'em??!
ok, apart from that question being totally 90's, it's simple.. i'm already taken.. :)
i'm getting married to the sweetest, most handsome, godliest guy ever: daniel edwards. he'll be mentioned a lot since he was the one who sparked my interest in elephants.. well sorta. :)

will you blog about how to save elephants from pollution?
probably not. don't be upset. if i do find a heart-touching story on this topic, i may post it and give my comments, but this blog is not ready to tackle saving all the elephants. maybe my next one?

hopefully i answered some questions you were too afraid to ask.. :) this is it for now, but stay tuned for pictures and stories and ideas for elephant decorating.
